Effective November 1, 2023, all employers must use the revised, current version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, with the edition date of 08/01/2023, when completing the employment eligibility verification process. This updated Form I-9 reflects the option for eligible employer to verify employment eligibility remotely.
There are a few changes that have been made to the Form I-9 in an effort to improve the customer experience. Sections 1 and 2 have been reduced from two separate pages to one; the Preparer and/or Translator Certification portion is now a separate Supplement A to be used as needed, rather than being a part of the main form; similarly the Reverification and Rehire section is now a separate Supplement B to be used as needed, rather than being a main part of the form; the form Instructions are now 8 pages, instead of 15; and the “List of Acceptable Documents” now includes acceptable receipt notices and more information on automatic extensions of employment authorization documents (EADs).
